Broken But Not Broken

In trying to set up a work around for the Alexa problem working with Philips Hue I found the actual issue.

The Philips Hue Skill was not authorised. Logically you'd expect this to stop all Alexa/Hue integration but instead it caused random behaviour.

I deleted the "Kitchen" light group from Alexa and asked her to "re-scan". On re-scanning she didn't find the light group that appears in the Hue app.

Upon checking the Hue Skill it wasn't listed.

When searching for the Hue Skill it stated that "This Skill is no-longer authorised".

On re-authorising the skill all the Hue integration works properly again.

Previously I had each light, as recognised by Alexa, listed in the "Kitchen" group in Alexa. What I've done now is set Alexa to turn on and off the "Kitchen" group as defined in Hue. This does have the benefit that as bulbs are replaced I now only have to change them in the Hue app and not the Alexa app too.

I'm still looking into PiHole and Home Assistant as PiHole could potentially improve DNS and Home Assistant could consolidate the various home automation and make it less dependent on the Internet.
