Halloween 2001

What used to be known as the Dover road followed close to what is now the A2 between Dover and London.

In the times when horse drawn carriages were the main form of transport the last hurdle before getting in to London was Shooters Hill.

Apparently highwaymen used to hide in the woods on the hill waiting for the slow weary horses to make their way up and here they would be easy targets for looting.

It would stand to reason that if this was a favourite place for highway men then the woods would today be a favourite haunt for the unfortunate victims.

Any truth in this article is purely by accident.
