So What Do We Think About Microsoft Avatars?
Over the 2020 pandemic many office workers were sent home with face to face meetings being impossible we turned to systems such as Zoom and Teams. To maintain familiarity with our work colleagues we were encouraged to use web cams, where web cams were impractical we were encouraged to upload photograph avatars, when staff were not happy uploading pictures then the staff are typically represented by an icon containing their initials.
Mr Zuckerberg stood up and suggested that meetings would be more involving, more like the traditional face to face meetings if we used VR and cartoonish like avatars, all be it without legs!
Now Microsoft are introducing similar cartoon like avatars into their remote meeting platform, Teams.
The system allows for a reasonable amount of customisation, a little lip sync and some button click controlled "reactions".
How do we feel about cartoon avatars in corporate environments? While they may work for the "town hall" style meetings I'm just not sure that they work well at all for smaller meetings and I certainly don't see those who don't like to use cameras or pictures taking time to create a cartoon representation of themeselves.
