Thanks For Everything Mum...
Mum passed away this morning at the hospice with dad by her side.
My brother and I were able to visit her last week while she was still awake and able to talk with us. As the week progressed, the pain med's were increased and she slowly slipped away.
While at the hospice I spoke to the Social Services worker, a very helpful lady who has helped many people through difficult times like this. She had a list of questions which she knew by heart, one of which being "have you had the chance to say everything you wanted to your mum?". Now there's two parts to this, I've had 36 years (minus the first few years when I wasn't old enough to talk) to talk with mum. In those years, I truly and honestly cannot think of one single time when we've argued. I do not know of anyone else that is a selfless and giving as mum. Even when we were at her bed side at the hospice she was asking if we wanted drinks and if we were warm enough. Mum knew how much we love her and have always loved her, there was no need for last minute apologies or making up, in that way we had said everything. However, she was taken too early. I would have wanted to talk to her about many, many more things.
Mum, you have been a great support, not only to your natural family but also to all of our friends who you made feel like family. I cannot thank you enough for all you have done for us.
Goodbye mum.
